On June 6, 2023, City Council approved final passage of an Ordinance to impose a temporary moratorium on Capital Improvement Plans (CIP) for properties with 25 or more rental units.

Beginning Thursday June 1st, 2023, payments can be accepted for the 2023-2024 Rent Program annual fee. Property owners may pay the fee by logging in to their Rent Registry account to pay by credit card or e-check. Owners also will receive a mailed invoice indicating the total fees due, with instructions on how to pay by check.
Pursuant to Alameda Municipal Code Section 6-58.60(B), the Annual General Adjustment for September 1, 2023, through August 31, 2024, is 2.9%
Rent Ordinance no. 3250 prevents landlords from terminating a tenancy except for certain allowable grounds and requires a relocation payment in circumstances that are not the fault of the tenant. Amounts for these relocation payments were established by City Council resolution and are adjusted annually based on a component of the Consumer Price Index (CPI)

On Monday February 6th, the Rent Program published its 2022 Annual Report. The Rent Program completed its first quarter as a division of the City Attorney's Office in December after making the transition from the Housing Authority of the City of Alameda. The annual report details Rent Program activities during 2022 and presents data on cases, submissions, registration and Alameda's rental market.
