 Among the report's highlights:

  • The Rent Program received 19 valid "no fault" terminations of tenancy during FY 2019-2020. This represent a 72% reduction in the number of displaced households compared to FY 2018-2019.

  • Rent Program staff identified a total of 30 rent increases in violation of the current or prior Rent Ordinances. Three cases remain pending; the other notices were all rescinded and the tenants were refunded any overpayments they made.

  • This annual report represents the first look at data collected through new Rent Registry. Among those properties that had registered by June 30, 2020, the most common type of rental unit in the City of Alameda is a two-bedroom unit in a multi-family property built prior to February 1, 1995. The median monthly rent for such a unit is $2,250.
